Dynamic Handicapping Levels The Playing Field (Beta)
Note: Dynamic Handicapping applies to X01 games ONLY
In addition to DartConnect’s Standard Handicapping, the scoring app now supports DC’s “Dynamic Handicapping” beta-feature in all modes, including league matches, Digital Steel events, My Events, and social matches.
Dynamic Handicapping will automatically adjust the starting score for every leg after the first leg, changing the starting score for the winning player throughout the match based on the results of each leg. This ensures that the handicap uses the most recent and live performance instead of stale data, plus updates from leg to leg, creating a system that is more fair to both players.
How It Works
- After the first leg of a match, the winning player’s starting score in the next leg will be automatically adjusted using the following formula: “Leg Difference x 3-Dart Average”
- For example:
- After the first leg, a player wins with a 63 average and is now ahead in the leg score 1-0
- At the start of the second leg, the winning player’s starting score will add (1 x 63) and their starting score will be adjusted to 563 (See above picture)
- If the same player wins the second leg with the same average of 63, for the next leg it will add (2 x 63 = 126) and their starting score will be 627
- The starting score will continue to be adjusted for every new leg
- If the leg score becomes tied at any point in the match (ex. 1-1, 2-2, etc), neither player will have their score adjusted
Pro Tip: To have the first leg still provide a handicap advantage, you can turn on Dynamic Handicapping and ALSO use standard handicapping to adjust the starting score for one player. Remember to readjust the manual handicapping for for the second leg to only have dynamic hc used for the remainder of the match.
How To Activate Dynamic HC
- Click the following links for instructions for the following match types:
- League Matches
- My Events (For DS Certified members)
- For Custom Requested Tournament Events – mention in the comments section of the Event Request Form and identify which competitions in your event require this feature to be activated
- For Social Matches – activate Dynamic HC in the user options by clicking the gear icon on the red control bar, then selecting the Dynamic Handicapping option and clicking Save/Apply (see example pictures below). NOTE: For social matches, the Dynamic HC option will automatically turn off when the match is complete and will need to be reactivated for any new match.
